What drew you to paint in the style of Bob Ross?
"When I was young, we would come home from school and the 'Joy of Painting' was always playing on our local PBS channel. There was no internet or cable, so we had plenty of free time to stay focused and concentrate on his shows.
Me and my friends were instantly hooked by Bob's ability to paint an entire landscape in just 24 minutes.
His soothing voice, positive affirmation, and the amazing way he made everything look so "easy", mesmerized us. 'Sensei Bob' secretly managed to encourage an entire generation of us latchkey kids to believe in ourselves.
He seemed very present; there for us, every day. He was our afternoon teacher.
I began painting around age 13. I eventually began to sell my paintings in local restaurants and places in New Hampshire and Vermont. My father was a carpenter, so he could make us beautiful wood frames to help them sell. I remember those days of painting.
To this day I still love it. If I ever have the time, I sit and create something out of nothing. And if I listen to the wind, I sometimes still hear Bob's voice saying, 'You can paint too'."
